TEACHER INQUIRY DISCUSSION

We have been throwing around a few ideas about what to do for our teacher Inquiry, based on research on our Literature review which ended up being on " How do National Standards Improve Outcomes for 21st Century Learners?".

In our research, we found that a key outcome of National Standards was to report to parents. This was supposed to support parents to engage with their child's learning and encourage them to help their child at home.  Studies found that this wasn't true.

Therefore we are wondering how we can achieve the goals of the national standards policy, by finding a more meaningful way to report to parents.

  1. Hi Dell, Who are your community? Would you say that it's your students and parents only? Or is anyone else your community? Is part of our role to start educating parents about what and how they should/could/might engage with their kids learning? Do you think this is really a successful way?

  2. Hi Jenni. Thanks for your thoughtful comment. At this stage we think our "community" will initially be our students, parents and whanau, and other members of our syndicate team. We will probably have some face to face interviews/ 3way conversations and surveys to get feedback about how engaging and informative learning blogs are for parents and whanau .
